About
Celebrate Newton Banners is a public art project, designed to enliven and brighten our city, inspire civic pride, and introduce art to more public spaces. The banners were installed in March 2023, on approximately 130 light poles on major streets and in commercial areas. The designs on the banners were created by artists Leah Kolidas, Adam Proia, Sarah Tomkins, and Sage Widder, who were selected by a jury of community leaders. To represent the diversity of our city, each of the banners also includes the words “Celebrate Newton” in the eight most common languages spoken in Newton (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Russian, Hebrew, Japanese, and Italian). The Celebrate Newton Banners initiative is presented in partnership with the City of Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. Village Bank is the presenting sponsor.
