Newton Community Pride is proud to support a coalition of Newton arts and business nonprofit leaders urging Mayor Ruthanne Fuller to apply to the state to have a portion of Washington Street and adjoining streets designated as one of the Commonwealth’s Cultural Districts.

Along with leaders from Newton Cultural Alliance, New Art Center, and the Charles River Regional Chamber, NCP sent a letter to the Mayor in January, 2024, highlighting the benefits of the designation. This includes driving economic growth, strengthening distinctive local character, and improving the quality of life of families across Massachusetts. Read more about the proposed Cultural District here.

On March 25, 2024,  The League of Women Voters of Newton hosted a topic meeting at the Allen Center for the Arts for the community to discuss and learn about the process of becoming a cultural designated city as well as the benefits.  Thank you to New TV for recording the meeting.
