Newton Resident Volunteers to Clean Up Fire Hydrants
There are 2500 fire hydrants in Newton and resident David Porat wants to turn rust into red. With the help of Dana Hanson in the mayor’s office and Newton’s Parks, Recreation and Culture, Porat has the supplies he needs.A former engineer, he wants to “help the city and work with his hands.”In good weather, Porat can scrape and paint up to five hydrants. These hydrants are near Center and Ward streets. You’ll notice the difference across Newton Center, his home village.
