  Blue Heron Bridge at Charles River Walkway Invasives Plant Pull Newtonville Afternoon Help our river and our parks and native species by removing Garlic Mustard, a non-native plant invader that poisons the soil and harms our native species. It is easy and fun to pull out. Other invasives may be removed as well. Middle school (age 11) and older 30 29
  Historic East Parish Burying Ground Newton Centre Afternoon Spring clean-up at Newton's historic East Parish Burying Ground (1660), including most areas within the burying ground and adjoining sidewalk. Activities will include trash removal; raking, hauling and piling leaves; collecting dead wood; trimming invasive plant growth; clearing the perimeter fences of winter debris; and sweeping and tidying the sidewalk areas near and around the entrance gates. This is a unique opportunity to participate directly in the preservation of this historic treasure, to learn about Newton's early community, and to enjoy the company of fellow volunteers as you literally touch history with your own hands.   Oak Hill Middle School Newton Centre Afternoon Beautify the flower garden areas in the front of Oak Hill Middle School. We'll make the school a friendlier place to learn! Project will start around 2 and requires no more than an hour and a half.

  FA Day Middle School Newtonville Afternoon Help make FA Day Middle School beautiful. We will work outside to clean up the grounds around the school and spread mulch, plant flowers, and water plants. Inside, we will do clean up and projects as requested by the teachers.

Full Memorial Spaulding School--Garden Cleanup Oak Hill Afternoon Come help clean up our the garden in front and behind our school. Bring gardening gloves, rakes, shovels, clippers, small buckets and wheel barrels to help spread mulch and stone dust. Noon-2pm!

  Goods for Refugees - Collection and Packing of Goods Newton Centre Afternoon Join us and help us sort and pack donations into boxes. These goods will be transported after NewtonSERVES to a local charity that supports refugees in Boston. We encourage all NewtonSERVES volunteers to make donation.   Peirce Elementary School West Newton All Day Spring clean up of the school grounds. This will be an outdoor project. Projects include debris/yard waste clean up, trash removal and planting flowers. Additional projects may be added as needed. This project site is a food pantry donation collection site.

  New Art Center Scrub and Rake! Newtonville All Day Spruce up the New Art Center - Rake and do spring cleanup outdoors, perhaps some plantings. Scrub our plastic tables and chairs so our students have a clean and pleasant environment! Dust and wash baseboards.

  Stearns Park Spring Facial Nonantum All Day Landscape Cleanup: raking and bagging leaves/twigs/debris; cutting back overgrown vegetation; sweeping walkways; cleaning tennis courts, removing fallen tree limbs. Age 8 & older 40 37
  Ward School Community Service and Food Drive Newton Centre All Day We'll be doing indoor and outdoor projects including painting and cleaning, as well as playground and garden maintenance.   Newton North Operation Bold Paint Newtonville All Day Join us to brighten up Newton North by adding color (painting) to some classroom walls!

  Mason-Rice Garden Newton Centre All Day Clean up and prepare the garden for planting. Remove dead plants/spread fertilizer and mulch/turn over soil/trim bushes/rototil and possibly build a fence.

  Charles river invasive clean-up Auburndale All Day This project will involve cutting back and removing the invasive thorns and bushes along the bank of the charles river in a location between Lyons field and the Auburndale cove playground High school and older 5 4
  SNEAKER REUSE & RECYCLING PROJECT Newton Centre All Day Students for a Greener World will collect sneakers for reuse or recycling. Sneakers can be brought to collection boxes at City Hall on NewtonSERVES day. Sneakers will be sorted and taken to the Nike outlet in Wrentham for recycling OR to an organization that will distribute useable sneakers to individuals in need.

  Bigelow Beautification Newton Corner All Day Join us as we beautify the grounds of Bigelow Middle School. We plan to clean and mulch garden beds, prune shrubs and trees, etc. outdoors.   Cold Spring Park Invasives Pull Newton Highlands Morning We will continue and expand our vigilance in getting Garlic Mustard out of Cold Spring Park. Garlic Mustard is a non native plant invader that shades out native species and alters the habitat of native butterflies and birds. It is very easy to identify and fun to pull. Middle school (age 11) and older 30 27
  Lincoln Eliot Elementary School Multiple Morning This will be our eighth NewtonSERVES project at Lincoln Eliot. We will do outdoor projects including general cleaning up, raking, spreading mulch and fibar, and prepping and planting our school garden. This year we will also have indoor projects including painting and small repairs. Adult workers are needed - kids ready to work with parents are also encouraged to come. Age 8 & older 75 16
  Burr Elementary School Auburndale Morning Join us as we clean up the garden and prep for planting. We will also do general yard work, weeding and spreading wood chips if we have enough hands to help. Children are welcome but should be with a parent at all times.

Will include light leaf raking, picking up twigs, sweeping, and possibly moving lawn furniture from the garage outside.   Washington Park Spring Clean-Up Newtonville Morning The Washington Park Clean-Up has been organized by Park Friends. People who live on the park and any other interested volunteers collaborate to remove debris and trash from the park and do some landscaping work(weeding, spreading mulch, etc.) Free drinks and donuts on site, offered by neighbors!

  Dolan Pond Invasives Plant Pull West Newton Morning Help this lovely pocket park and its native species by removing plant invaders such as Garlic Mustard, a non-native invader that poisons the soil.
